CO Queer Quest

Jul 10th, 2019 - Jul 21st, 2019

“Every Queer person on the planet needs to do this program. This is the most important work for yourself, your community and the earth.”  -Quinn F., participant in the 2015 Queer Quest

The Queer Quest** is a rite of passage program for those in the LGBTQIA+ community that is safe, supportive and healing. When we come together to sit in sacred space, let us do so with openness and welcoming. Let us do so with compassion and love for all of who you are. The time has come for each of us to take our rightful place as whole people in this world. We are indeed whole; we have been whole children, whole adolescents, whole adults and are whole elders, with much to learn and much to teach the world.

The 2018 Queer Quest will be the 6th year of this program. Over these years there has been more than a growing interest in this work. There has been deep healing for both participants and within the queer community. It is rare that a ceremony brings together such a diverse spectrum of people representing the Queer community. And it is amazing and powerful when we do come together with the intention to be fully who we are. There is healing on a profound level, on many profound levels.

As one of the participants in the 2014 program wrote; "In sacred circles before, I have found an ally or two, another queer person who understands in some fundamental way some part of my story. But to sit in sacred space with an entire group that shares that common thread, that common understanding of shame and fear and celebration, that is a gift that I had no idea until I stepped into that space that my soul was craving. What sacred reflections we were all able to be for each other, for a particular part of ourselves that does not often (no matter how open or accepting a space may be) get to be witnessed so deeply." -Alicia B.

This vision fast ceremony will honor a life passage or transition or simply allow you to claim your identity and your unique gifts. For 11 days, surrounded by a dozen 14,000 foot peaks by day and billions of stars at night, we will come together in queer community to share, witness, and support each other.

The program is divided into three sections; severance, threshold time, and incorporation. The first days are a time of ‘severance’ or separation from your daily life, a time where you will be wholly seen and witness each other’s unique stories and set an intention for your solo. The threshold time is your solo time of four days and nights out on some of the most amazing land in the State of Colorado. Finally, the days spent after the fast are the first days of your incorporation experience where you will share your story and begin to celebrate the fullness of who you are and all you bring to this world.

Logistics: We encourage people to arrive on the late afternoon/evening of June 2, the night before we officially start. The group will then come together for its first meeting at 10:00 a.m. on June 3. We will complete our ceremony midday on June 13.

Practical preparation: Please plan to bring enough food and equipment to be self sufficient. You will need to bring shelter and clothing suitable for a full range of inclement weather. We request that all participants purchase the vision fast handbook, “The Trail to the Sacred Mountain” available from Lost Borders Press ( Consult this resource for a detailed equipment list to help with preparation. If you are in need of gear, please ask as we can often help.

**We recognize and honor that the word “queer” has been used in the past as a derogatory term and is still very hurtful for some in the LGBTQIA+ community. Many LGBTQIA+ organizations and communities have reclaimed the word “queer” and this has been both empowering and uniting of the multiple complex identities within the community. We use the word here as an inclusive term and shortcut for the LGBTQIA+ lettering.

The School of Lost Borders has created a sliding scale for all its fast and trainings in an effort to keep our courses affordable to a wide range of people. We set forth no criteria and trust that each individual will pay what they feel is appropriate.
