The Vision Fast: Today in our fast paced culture we can easily miss the call to our wildness. Spending time alone in a wild place on the earth will revive something deep in your bones- a call that part of you has been longing to answer. The vision fast answers that call and provides your place on the earth. Your time alone in nature awakens that wildness and brings clarity and purpose back into your life.
Taking time to mark the passages in your life allows you to move freely in the world. Leaving behind what no longer serves and stepping up and embracing the natural evolution of your life can have profound effects. If we do not mark these transitions we suffer the consequences and life can begin to feel meaningless or mundane. Marking these transitions helps open the door to the next phase of our lives. You may ask yourself: Where am I now in my life? What am I ready to leave behind? What am I ready to step into or celebrate? What is calling me to move from one place to another?
Spending time alone in the high country of Colorado with no food and minimal equipment is the wild place you may be looking for inside you. The time alone on the land surrounded by mountains, trees, water, sun, and stars will reflect your inner world in a way that can transform your life and clearly mark your passage from one stage of your life to another. Surrendering to the natural world in this way opens you to the wisdom of nature and your own inner wisdom blossoms in response.
Program Overview: The eleven day program is divided into three sections; severance, threshold time, and incorporation. The first days are a time of separation from your daily life and settling your reason(s) for going out on the land. The threshold time is your solo time of four days and nights out on the land. Finally, the days spent after the fast are the first days of your incorporation experience where you will learn to work with the new phase of life you are entering.
The separation and intention setting begin when you decide to embark on this ceremony. Events in your life may be calling you to this work even now. Listen to yourself and your life! Once you commit to coming, the separation begins and the work you have done to reach this place in your life will begin getting clearer. You are asked to write a letter about your intention for doing this ceremony to formally begin this process. Your intention will be clarified in the days before going out on the land.
The threshold time is your ceremony to mark your own life passage. This time is yours to create and will take place in a wild and beautiful area of Colorado. Base camp will be held not far from your solo spot and you will have a ‘buddy’ nearby who will check a sign from you each day to ensure your well being.
During incorporation you will share the story of your solo time. The guides will reflect or ‘mirror’ your story back to you in order to bring it into the world in a concrete way. The witnessing by the group will ensure there is no doubt about the transition you have made. Finally, we will talk about how to carry your story and your new self into the world where the incorporation will continue to unfold over the year ahead.
Logistics: We encourage people to arrive on the late afternoon/ evening of August 1st, the night before we officially start. The group will then come together for its first meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Aug 2nd. We will complete our ceremony on the late afternoon of Aug 13th.
Practical preparation: The School makes no provisions for meals or equipment. We ask everyone to come prepared to live self-sufficiently. You will need to bring shelter and clothing suitable for a full range of inclement weather. We request all participants to purchase the vision fast handbook, “The Trail to the Sacred Mountain” available from Lost Borders Press (www.lostborderspress.com). Consult this resource for a detailed equipment list to help with preparation.
